John Muir Award

The John Muir Award is offered to all groups as a way of encouraging our young people to engage with environment around them. Mainly focusing on wild places, our young people get the chance to enjoy and appreciate the great outdoors. Open to all ages the JMA promotes an awareness and understanding of the environment.

Given the chance to appreciate the outdoors our young people enjoy learning about the local wildlife and have become passionate about protecting the environment as well as educating their friends and family members about it. They will also be given the chance to learn about John Muir himself and his achievements throughout his life.

Easy and fun to complete the JMA has four key challenges at the heart of the award:

  • Discover wild places

  • Explore the environment to allow better understanding and awareness

  • Conserve it by taking some responsibility for the environment around you

  • Share your experiences to pass on knowledge and awareness

To encourage progress the award is available to complete at three levels which are Discover, Explore and Conserve. At each level similar to other award schemes the participants have to show a level of commitment by giving their time to complete the award.
