We got the Beat 2019

2019 was an amazing year for music at CVYP. Working in partnership with Helix Arts our young people spent several months developing their own sound and tracks.

Music in Sessions

The groups got to experience taking part in various music sessions with the young carers enjoying making their own mini-speakers from scratch and the SEND groups writing their own tracks which they turned into a music video.

Summer Band Camp

Over the end of the summer term and holidays CVYP hosted several open access music sessions including Brazilian drumming, Dj’ing, pop up choir. Open to all our groups and the young people from the local area, they were a hit. With our young people loving the Brazilian drumming in particular with Jack Drum and their special guests from Brazil.

This then led into a week of fun packed music workshops with young people getting a taste of drama, song writing, beatboxing and film making with various artists. Our Silver arts award group members then held a celebration showcase at the end to share with their friends and families what they created. One highlight is the “I’ll be there” music video which our group made.

Performing at Music Spark at The Sage

One of the highlights of our music project was a mixture of our SEND groups writing their own work and performing at The Sage on 5th July to other young people as part of the music spark showcase which they hold annually.ย  Performing a mixture of rap and lyrical songs which they wrote, the group was a smashing success and their passion for music shown through.

ย Music Residential

At the beginning of December last year, we held a two day music residential at Chirdon Head Expedition Centre for 15 participants from across all our groups. They got to work with several artists specialising in pop choir and song writing. Over the course of the weekend the group wrote two songs for their celebration evening and took part in the arts award at Bronze and Silver levels.

The weekend was highly entertaining for all involved. If you donโ€™t believe us check out the video below of our residential.
